Qala Local Council launches further Adopt a Tree Initiatives

Over the past few months the Qala Local Council said it has embarked on yet another ambitious project – the conversion of 9,000 cubic meters of barren land into a Picnic Area adjacent to Gnien il-Familja.

Recently the Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs Dr. George Pullicino donated 400 trees [1] to be part of this afforestation venture, some of these trees have already been planted and ‘adopted’ by every child attending the Qala Primary School in an activity held on the 2nd of March 2010.

Qala Local Council is now extending this initiative even further and is inviting every family residing in Qala to adopt a tree during one of the annual activities held to commemorate Jum il-Lokalita during the month of May.

Interested families are requested to hand their names in at the Qala Local Council at their earliest convenience, so that they can be contacted closer to the activity date. Names need to be submitted by Friday the 30th of April 2010.

Furthermore every family which is blessed by a new birth, is also being invited to plant a tree and personalize it in the newborn child’s name. The aim, besides that of promoting afforestation which is of utmost importance for our well being, is also to rear and nurture both the newborn and the tree at the same pace and watch them grow and flourish together, the Council said.
