In celebration of the “Tree Planting Week” campaign, Qala Local Council, in collaboration with the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, have planted 230 trees on a 9,000 square metre piece of land which was, up until a few years ago, abandoned and left to overgrow. This land has been earmarked by the Council to be converted into a picnic area, the first of its kind in Gozo

This ceremony took place last Tuesday, the 2nd of March, in the presence of Minister George Pullicino and pupils from the President Anton Buttigieg Primary School, Qala. The Mayor and Councillors were also in attendance. Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg and Minister Pullicino addressed the young students.

Prior to the tree planting, primary school pupils read out poems and compositions highlighting the importance of trees, environment and the countryside.
