There will be no Gozo-Rocks! Clean & Green hike this Sunday, organiser Louis Debattista said that for the next few Sundays he will be in Malta to join with the Alive Cycling Challenge Group [1] for required training rides.
The next cleaning hike will be from Ramla to Marsalforn on Saturday, the the 28th of June, meeting at the Qala Local Council at 8:30am. Louis said that there will be time for swimming in Marsalforn after the long hike!
“This is our final hike,” said Louis, “after finishing the stretch between Marsalforn and Ramla, we will have met our goal of hiking and cleaning along the entire perimeter of Gozo!”
“We have collected 443 bags, some heavy materials, and hiked a total of 105.4km around Gozo. There were 58 volunteers who took part in the hikes, kids and adults and they turned up to help clean up the island of Gozo through cold weather and the heat of the last few weeks.”
Louis thanked the local councils of Qala, Ghajnsielem, Xewkija, Sannat, Munxar, Kercem, Ghasri and Nadur for providing materials (bags, gloves, wipes) and transportation.
“I am hoping that the local councils of San Lawrenz, Gharb, Zebbug and Xaghra will also contribute and that all the local councils of Gozo will support us next January when we begin our cleaning hikes agani next year!” Louis said.
For those who would like to join Louis and the team of volunteers on the final hike for this year, please take along food and water and wear sensible shoes.
