Following last Monday’s registration of the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) and the University of Malta Academic Staff Association’s (UMASA dispute with the University of Malta and Government [1], Dr. Noel Vella, Director of Industrial Relations and Employment, in his capacity as mediator, has informed both Unions that the Government side will be communicating a counter offer by this Thursday, latest Friday.
“In the hope that the Government stands true to the communication by the DIER,” the MUT and UMASA said that they have “decided to suspend industrial actions as advised yesterday until further notice.”
The Unions saidt that they will, however, reinstate the industrial actions starting from Friday 4th of July if no acceptable counter proposal is received by not later than Friday at 11am, “which is much more than sufficient time to provide feedback on a proposal already worked out by the Unions themselves and tabled more than two months ago.”
