The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) and the University of Malta Academic Staff Association (UMASA), in a joint statement, said that they are declaring a trade dispute with the University of Malta and the Government of Malta on the “needless procrastination that is being manifested towards the conclusion of the agreement on the academics at the University and the Junior College.”

The Unions said that, on request from the Government, had submitted reasonable proposals on the financial package for the collective agreement way back on April 23rd. “Unfortunately the Unions have received no feedback whatsoever on the same proposal more than two months later creating a deadlock in negotiations which is resulting in a needless dragging on of negotiations.”

The Unions will outline the industrial actions that will be undertaken which will come into force on Wednesday 2nd July 2014 unless an acceptable counterproposal is received before Wednesday 8am.

These actions will be communicated to all members through the Unions’ websites and email.
