A chess tournament was held at the Gozo Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon as part of this year’s Gozo Sports Festival [1] which runs until the 7th of May.
What made the event all the more interesting, is that it involved children – all beginners. With youngsters from Gozo and Malta competing in this first mini tournament.
Organiser Monika Gergely said that she holds a chess class every Saturday morning at the Sports Complex in Victoria from 9am-12pm. All children are welcome to learn the art of chess.
Monika was very pleased that Pietro, one of the youngsters from the Gozo team, was awarded a trophy. The overall winners of the tournament were the Malta team.
However, there will be another chance for the young Gozo team, with a rematch planned, this time to be held in Malta.
