This weekend sees the start of the Gozo Sports Festival, which will open on Saturday with the Gozo stage of the Tour ta’ Malta – a 4-stage bike race around Malta and Gozo.

Stage 3 of the race will be located on roads around Nadur, starting from the Xhajma Horse Racing Track, with a duration of 60km, which is 12 laps of the course for Elite – 8 laps Masters and Ladies.

Then on Saturday evening, the annual Gozo Sports Awards ceremony is being held at the Grand Hotel Mgarr. This annual event acknowledges the efforts and great sacrifices made by the athletes, coaches and sports administrators in Gozo.

There will be rewards over various categories, as well as special awards for athletes who participated in the Special Olympics, as well as those who have made a long career in the field of sports.

The month-long programme for the Festival will this year introduce new disciplines such as sailing, tennis, shooting, table tennis, squash and chess.
