Gozo’s route 301 bus now operating with increased frequency

Gozo's route 301 bus now operating with increased frequencyAs from Monday, public transport users on five main routes, including one in Gozo, have started benefitting from the substantial increase in Malta Public Transport’s fleet [1].

These routes started operating with increased frequency and meaning capacity has increased substantially. This is the first of a series of planned changes, Transport Malta has said.

In Gozo, route 301, that operates between Mgarr and Victoria will be operating with increased frequency to make up for the increased demand. The increased frequency on this route will apply throughout the week.

In Malta, Transport Malta said that throughout the week, route X4 started operating every 15 minutes during peak hours. This route operates between Valletta and Birzebbuga going through Hamrun (Blata l-Bajda), Marsa, Hal Luqa, the airport and Hal Far.

Residents of Rabat, Attard, Birkirkara and Msida who use route 50, between Valletta and Rabat, will have a more frequent service during peak hours and the route will start operating twice every hour between 16:00 and 18:00 as well. These increases will be in effect between Monday and Friday.

MPT will start operating route 48 every 15 minutes during the week. The route operates between Bugibba and Valletta, including St. Paul’s Bay, Mosta, Birkirkara and Msida.

Route 63, between Qormi and Valletta, will start operating every 20 minutes, during peak hours between Monday and Friday. The capacity will thus increase for the residents of Qormi and parts of Hamrun.

Transport Malta concluded by saying that the changes have been made following talks with MPT and that it “remains committed to collaborating with MPT for a more efficient Public Transport Service.”

But still no bus to connect with the 5.30 am ferry to Cirkewwa. Other services like the 312 start at 5.00am to Gharb where most people are still in bed why can’t there be a 5.00 am 301 bus to Mgarr?
Would be better to have 2 x 301 buses to travel too and from the ferry at the same time, as at the moment, when the single bus departs at either end it is already full and people are regularly left behind.

Adding to Ray’s idea, in peak hours it would be good to have a direct ‘301X’ service that runs between the bus station and ferry without stopping, followed 5 mins later by a normal stopping sevice for the rest of us.
