40 new buses are being added to the fleet by Malta Public Transport, expanding the volume of trips by 66,000 every year, it said.

In a statement MPT said that the €9 million investment increases the public transport fleet in Malta to 435, of which 250 are less than four years old.

Malta Public Transport Chairman Felipe Cosmen also welcomed the Government’s decision to upgrade the public transport network with new routes and frequencies which will be announced in the coming days.

Mr Cosmen said, “while mobility is evolving, public transport remains the most efficient and most eco-friendly way of moving large amounts of people.”

He added that “over the past four years, we have invested in 211 new Euro 6 buses to upgrade the public transport fleet in Malta,”

The new buses vehicles provide clean and fully accessible transportation which Malta Public Transport is confident will play an important part in reducing the country’s collective carbon footprint.

“Malta is a special place for me and for our group of companies and I am proud of what we have achieved in the last four years,” said Mr Cosmen, as he thanked MPT employees for their dedication and energy and customers for their loyalty.
