The Malta Chamber of Pharmacists has said that it is “dissatisfied with the MCESD talks outcome, and its dispute still stands.
In a statement it said that, “whilst vindicated” on the consistent stand on the wearing of masks by the public in health care premises such as pharmacies, and welcoming its declared enforcement in all economic operations and other public places, the Chamber noted with “increased concern” the sharp spiking of active covid-19 cases (including a vulnerable elderly person) and that the R factor is over 2.
The Chamber therefore reiterated its call for complete ban of mass events including the proposal of 300 persons outdoors and 100 indoors.
It called on the PM and Tourism Minister to “review the airport policy vis a vis visitors before they could freely circulate and the so called “safe corridors,” though these are already compromised by the evolving situation brought about by the events of the last 2 weeks as reflected by the CDC recommendation on non essential travel to Malta.”
Representing a health care profession based on Science and evidence based reports by peers, the Chamber said that it supports the statement issued by the MAPHM [1] and strongly recommends it to the authorities.
Consistent with its stand as declared previously [2] in support of MAM, the Chamber declared that its dispute still stands.
It went on to say that it has directed pharmacists “to be on the alert, to intensify their safeguards in community pharmacies and follow the Chamber’s directives and guidances issued since March and never retracted.”
The Chamber reminded the public that they are to wear masks or visors, sanitise hands and observe the 2 metre social distance distancing when in a pharmacy.
“These are the three maxims advocated by the Superintendent for Public Health as strong weapons against coronavirus,” it added.
It concluded by saying that the Chamber will continue to monitor the situation and act accordingly.
