Gozo volunteers needed to help on turtle nest watch at Ramla l-Hamra

Gozo volunteers needed to man turtle nest watch at Ramla l-HamraThe Wildlife Rescue Team of Nature Trust Malta are appealing for Gozo volunteers to help with the turtle nest watch on Ramla l-Hamra beach, the first one for 2022 on the Maltese Islands.

Following the discovery of the nest on Tuesday morning [1] by one of the wildlife volunteers on patrol at Ramla L-Hamra, the team said they need “generous people to help by lending us some of their time.”.

The area will be monitored 24/7 for the coming 2 months, by volunteers for Nature Trust in collaboration with ERA until “hopefully we get to see the precious hatchlings emerging.”

They explained that during the day, duties are mostly interacting with the public on the beach and answering any questions they might have. During the night it’s mostly making sure no predators enter the nest enclosure.

All information will be given. Shifts are usually of 3 hour duration and the team said that a roster is drawn up weekly depending on the volunteer’s availability.

Anyone who is able to dedicate some of their time every week for such a wonderful cause, please send an email on turtle.ramla@gmail.com [2]
