Nature Trust – FEE Malta has said that on Tuesday morning one of its wildlife rescue volunteers was the lucky one to find the first turtle nest for 2022 at Ramla l-Hamra in Gozo.
The coordinators from Nature Trust – FEE Malta as well as officials from ERA – Environment & Resources Authority were called to inspect the area, and the nest has been confirmed
NTM said that the area will be monitored 24/7 for the coming 2 months, by volunteers for Nature Trust in collaboration with ERA until “hopefully we get to see the precious hatchlings emerging.”
Anyone wishing to become a volunteer should please send an email on turtle.ramla@gmail.com
Patrols on other beaches will still continue as nesting season is not yet over, NTM said.
The NGO said that anyone spotting a turtle on a beach, should please call them immediately on 9999 9505, “do not use flash, do not touch the turtle, and give her at least 5-10m of space.”
