The Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna has appealed to the Environment Planning Review Tribunal to reject and respect the decision taken by the Planning Authority Board in June of 2016 in voting against the proposal for a 104,000 square metre mega-development/marina at Hondoq ir-Rummien, in Gozo.

The organisation said in a statement that, “the argument presented by the developers for tomorrow’s hearing should not invalidate the vote taken in 2016.” It pointed out that, “the vote represented 16 years of fierce and courageous campaigning against the proposed project, backed primarily by Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg together with the Local Council, various social, political and environmental organisations and the general public.”

Zminijietna – Voice of the Left also highlighted that fact that, “86% of Qala residents voted against the proposed project, in a referendum commissioned by the same Local Council in 2002. Members of Prestige Group developers were also invited as observers during the process.”
