Zminijietna backs introduction of electronic taggingThe Left think-tank organisation Zminijietna said that it backs the introduction of electronic tagging.

Zminijietna welcomed the fact that the concept of electronic tagging was mentioned by the Government.

“The application of electronic tagging is one of the leading tools applied worldwide, in controlling the whereabouts of perpetrator, and so preventing further offences and breaches of Court Orders. Also, it provides security and peace of mind for victims,” the left think-tank organisation said.

Zminijietna said in a statement that, “during these last years we have witnessed an increasing alarming rate of domestic violence. This is rather worrying and of utmost concern.”

“On the other hand, having more cases being identified and reported indicates that victims of domestic violence are coming forward,” added Zminijietna. “Yet, violence still prevails and no matter the services provided, there is always that unfortunate case.”

However, Zminijietna recommended “that more measures are applied in conjunction with electronic tagging in order to combat violence. One of these is the Multidisciplinary approach where all professionals and stakeholders involved meet on a regular basis, to discuss, and identify the level of risks and then act promptly in order to prevent further offences.”

Zminijietna – Voice of the Left concluded by recommending “more awareness and public information should be ongoing, also more awareness on violence taking place online, often with serious effects.”
