Heritage Malta have announced that they are organising two events with the theme ‘Heritage at Risk’ at the National Museum of Natural History in Mdina. The events which consist of a half day conference and exhibition focusing mainly on the conservation of art works and paper is being organised by students of Master of Arts in Cultural Heritage Management which is run by the Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage (ICMCH) which is the teaching and research arm of Heritage Malta.
‘Heritage at Risk’ incorporates everything that has to do with our culture both past and present that is presently at risk of being lost.
In general, the public is already aware about the need to conserve historic paintings but does not take into consideration that even contemporary artworks are in danger of being lost especially due to negligence. This conference is aimed at increasing awareness about the need to conserve both historic and modern art as well as paper. Amongst other things attendants will have the opportunity to witness at first hand a conservator working on site and thus learn what the process of conserving involves.
The conference will be held on Friday, the 21st of August, starting at 9am. Participation is free but pre-booking is essential from www.heritgeatrisk.net or by sending an email to heritageatrisk@gmail.com.
The exhibition will then be open to the public, free of charge, between the 22nd of August and the 6th of September, everyday (including Sundays) from 9am to 5pm.
