An exhibition of contemporary abstract paintings by Rachel Galea, entitled ‘Alive in Colour,’ was inaugurated on Tuesday, the 18th of August, at the Banca Giuratale in Independence Square, Victoria.

The exhibition will be open until the 2nd of September, opening times are, Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 1.00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9.00am to 12.00pm.

The sponsors of the exhibition include GasanMamo Insurance, Gozo Council for Culture and Arts, Gozo Express Services and Coca-Cola.

Rachel Galea was born on the 18th December, 1973, in Attard, Malta. Rachel is a contemporary artist, she lived in Malta until she was 11 years old, then her whole family moved to Gozo as both her parents are Gozitans.

Rachel felt the need to communicate with colour from an early age. At 14 years of age she started studying art and over the years she furthered her knowledge more. She attended gilding and private art tuition and she presently feels that art has taken over a huge part of her life. She works primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas.

From her very first painting her work has been exploring the movement of paint on canvas. In her painting, colour takes on emotion, as her hands move across the canvas she feels the energy as each turn of colour grabs a space to eternalise a hidden emotion through paint. To create this way is a freeing of the spirit. Rachel’s strong sense of colour is evident in all her artworks. Each painting has a corresponding title with a sensible mood behind each design. Most of Rachel’s painting and ideas are inspired by the nature around her, human emotions and sensibility.
