56 e-bikes for the use of Gozitan residents, have been purchased by the LESA Agency and the Gozo Regional Council.

These e-bikes were purchased at a cost of €82,000, of which €65,000 was paid by the LESA Agency.

The e-bikes were inaugurated at an event in Marsalforn attended by Minister for the Home Affairs, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri, Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, the President of the Gozo Region Samuel Azzopardi, and the Chief Executive of the LESA Agency Svetlick Flores.

Minister Byron Camilleri said that through these projects we are seeing more tangible work from the LESA agency in the localities of Gozo.

He explained that this goes hand in hand with the strategy of the same agency, which invests the money collected from citations in projects that benefit the residents.

He reiterated that the Gozo region is a clear example of the coordinated work that is being done between the regions, the councils and the LESA agency.

“This is one of the best projects carried out through this fund where a number of Gozitan residents, primarily young people, are being provided with alternative transport on the island of Gozitan,” he said.

He also made reference to the security cameras that have been installed along the Marsalforn seafront, explaining that these cameras will be helping the Police to strengthen security in this locality.

Minister Clint Camilleri stated that “this Government has a vision for a country with cleaner air and therefore through these e-bikes we are also offering alternative transport to Gozitan residents without emissions and which would be ideal for short distance trips on Gozo.”

He also spoke about the work being done, in collaboration with the Police, which includes security cameras, in order to increase security.

President of the Gozo Region Samuel Azzopardi said that “Projects like this are part of the Gozo Regional Council’s strategy to continue fostering a culture and lifestyle in Gozo that puts the environment first, in order to leave Gozo better for generations to come.”

Chief Executive of the LESA Agency, Svetlick Flores, said that since its establishment the agency has always believed that the money generated by the citations should be reinvested back into the communities.

“Through a scheme issued for the Local and Regional Councils we are seeing that several projects are carried out from which society benefits,” concluded Mr. Flores.
