The Gozo Business Chamber has joined the Gozo Tourism Association in condemning the way the construction is being carried out on the new road at Ghadira Bay.

In a statement on Saturday, the Chamber pointed out the fact that the south bound road from Cirkewwa in Ghadira is being reduced to one lane is already showing that “significant traffic congestion will be created when heavy traffic is coming from Cirkewwa on busy days.”

It stressed that “this apart from the one lane road leading to the port of Cirkewwa which makes effective queueing and accessibility to this port on busy days almost impossible.”

The Chamber also highlighted the security risks which, it said, have already been experienced.

The Chamber insisted that, “given the situation, accessibility and road works from Cirkewwa to Ghadira should be revisited keeping in mind that in excess of two million cars pass throughout these thoroughfares yearly for the ferry alone.

“No consultation with interested parties was undertaken,” it said.
