Nurses and Midwives overwhelmingly reject Government offer of proposalsUpdate from MUMN below – Nurses and Midwives overwhelmingly rejected the Government’s proposals regarding the new sectoral agreement.

During the Malta Union of Midwives & Nurses Extraordinary General Conference on Tuesday evening, 97.6% of the Nurses and Midwives voted against, while 1% voted in favour, there were 1.4% invalid votes.

The union said that 804 Nurses and Midwives were present. “This was the largest crowd ever attending for a General Conference since the union’s foundation in 1996.”

The MUMN Council said that later today, apart from the informing on the way forward, it will also explain the reason why the Nurses and Midwives rejected the Government’s package while, explaining certain events that occurred in the last few days.

Update:

The MUMN President Paul Pace, said on Thursday morning that the union will not as yet resort to directives so as to give the Government “another chance” to come back with improved package offer on the sectoral agreement.

He also said that the union had written to Health Minister Chris Fearne saying that it will not proceed to a conciliatory status, requesting that the Government resume negotiations to conclude the sectoral agreement.
