Electronic exams offered at UM Gozo Campus from next academic yearElectronic exams are to be offered at the Gozo Campus from the first semester of the next academic year (2023-24), the University of Malta has said.

UM, in a statement on Thursday explained that the agreement was made following meetings held with the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, the Ministry for Gozo and the Gozo University Group – the Student Association representing Gozitan students at UM.

The University would also like to clarify the following:

(i) “The use of WISEflow for exams is a new project that was introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which led the University to conduct exams remotely as a result of the measures that were currently in place across the country. Once these measures were lifted, UM immediately started working on a system to gradually replace traditional written exams where necessary. However, this new concept necessitates new infrastructural, administrative and procedural measures.

(ii) “Many of these electronic exams through WISEflow on campus were introduced in the academic year 2022/23. This is still a pilot project and the University is working to ensure that its lecture rooms are equipped with the necessary means to support these types of exams.

(iii) “The plan is for UM to gradually increase electronic exams on the main campus. At the same time, electronic exams at the Gozo Campus will also be introduced from the academic year 2023/24, after sufficient knowledge is gained from the pilot project being conducted in Malta.

(iv) “The University is committed to continuing to organise all written exams on the Gozo campus. Only these electronic exams making use of WISEflow will not be conducted in Gozo. In this regard, the University is introducing a new system to safeguard the integrity of the exams and the interests of the students who sit for such exams.”

The University of Malta concluded by saying that it is “committed to improving its operations and to offer the best conditions for students in a constantly evolving technological landscape.”
