A public consultation process for its “‘vision” to carry out an urban regeneration project spread out over 22,000 square metres in the centre of Victoria, has been launched by the Gozo Regional Development Authority.
The GRDA said that central to this vision is the fact that the area that is currently occupied by a car park will be transformed into an open space accessible to everyone, while an underground car park will also be created that will accommodate around 800 vehicles.
It pointed out that ”in light of the current challenges, namely the lack of open spaces, the lack of parking spaces, and to address traffic congestion, the Authority is proposing its vision for the regeneration of an entire area spread over an area of more than 22,000 square meters.”
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri stated that this proposal being put forward by the GRDA ”builds on the Government’s vision, that of generating open spaces in the centre of our towns and villages.”
“I welcome with satisfaction this initiative the Authority is undertaking. This is the first step in order to start this major project in Gozo which will bring a drastic change in Victoria,” said the Minister for Gozo.
Chief Executive of the GRDA Mario Borg, said that the consultation process will invite all those interested to give their contribution so that it really addresses the challenges, both present and future ones.
He emphasised that the vision that the Authority is presenting is ”not a final one but intended to raise a debate and arouse the interest of the public in general.”
The GRDA said that it will be holding public meetings in the coming weeks. All interested parties are encouraged to contribute to this process.
Mr. Borg also invited everyone who is interested to contribute during this consultation process where the proposals and the necessary documents are available to the public by clicking here.
The public consultation will close on the 1st of September.

A great idea, but the devil will be in the detail. How long will it take to build? (the school, the museum and the swimming pool in Victoria have been messy building sites for years) and where will people park whilst the main parking area in Victoria is closed?
