A reminder that this Saturday, there will be the opportunity to learn all about the many different bat species found on the Maltese Islands.

Din l-Art Helwa Ghawdex is inviting the public to join them at Dwejra Tower, Gozo, on Saturday, the 5th of August, for an early evening talk – 6.30-8.30pm.

Those present will learn about these amazing, beneficial mammals and the vital role they play in our natural world, and to better understand the current threats faced by bats here on the Maltese Islands.

The illustrated talk will be given in English by Ric Smith from the ‘Gozo Bat Survey,’ who is currently collecting data on bat species and their numbers across the island as part of a two-year official research project.

Dwejra Tower recently took part in a month-long survey of bats in the area as part of the project, and the results will also be shared at the event.

After the talk, DLH Ghawdex hopes to set up an acoustic detector to ‘hear’ and identify any bat species active around the tower and enjoy the sunset from the tower’s rooftop area.

DLH Ghawdex said that in case of unfavourable weather, the event will be postponed to a later date and booked participants will get the first opportunity to rebook.

What to bring

Essentials : Sturdy footwear, drinking water, insect repellant and windproof clothing.

Optional: Torch with red light filter. Binoculars for taking in the views.
