The Ministry for Gozo, in a statement on Friday evening, said that it cleans and collects waste from Santa Marija Bay and the Blue Lagoon on Comino three times a day “in order to keep these busy bays clean during the summer months.”
The Ministry was responding to a statement earlier today from Nadur Nadif and endorsed by seven other NGOs, which highlighted that there is no vision and parts of Comino have fallen victim to “negligence, shabbiness, and lack of enforcement. That is why, this year we decided to clean-up such areas.”
In its statement the Ministry said that, “data for the month of June, shows that over 31 tons of trash were collected. On average, 2,100 bags of trash are collected and disposed of every week from Comino.”
The Ministry concluded by “drawing attention to the fact that while the beach is for everyone to enjoy, bathers, contractors and users alike need to respect the environment and look after the beach as well.”
