There are 14 elderly people, 5 men and 9 women, who are on the waiting list to enter a home for the elderly on Gozo.
This was stated by Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri in response to a Parliamentary Question by Opposition MP Chris Said.
Dr Said has asked the number of elderly who were waiting to enter a home and their length of time on the waiting list.
Minister Camilleri said that the 14 elderly had been waiting for less than a year.
He explained that the time to enter depends on the available beds. If the home is full, a resident must leave for another to enter. In that case within fifteen days, the application will be processed, the necessary assessment will be made and the person will enter the residential home.
In the case of respite care, in less than a week each application will be processed and the elderly person can spend 9 weeks respite in the home, the Minister said.
