Prime Minister Robert Abela is currently on a visit to Gozo and one of his first stops was at the Sir M.A. Refalo Sixth Form, where he met with some of the students.

“On the island of villages that is the vision for Gozo, young people will play a central role. We want them to be the ones to reap the increasing opportunities that this island is offering, so we will continue to invest in you, and in your education,” he said.

It was explained that Sir M.A. Refalo is an educational institution that, while preparing around 400 students to continue their tertiary education through informal learning opportunities, it is also strengthening their skills and preparing them for the future.

The training it offers includes, among others, skills related to entrepreneurship, public speaking and the art of interviewing.

In a discussion he had with some of the students, the Prime Minister pointed out that “we cannot talk about the implementation of the vision for Gozo if we do not include the young people, who have a role in today’s Gozo to prepare the Gozo of tomorrow.”

He encouraged them to continue to come forward with more ideas of what Gozo wants and to continue to challenge the status quo and be the ones who make the policy for Gozo.

The Prime Minister explained that “the Government’s commitment to Gozo goes beyond words.”

The PM claimed that “the results speak for themselves, including the fact that in ten years we have doubled the number of workers with the private sector in Gozo itself.”

He said that the Gozo Region “has the highest rate of graduates, almost double the national average. Therefore, this emphasis on education explains why quality careers have increased in Gozo in recent years.”

Abela stated that “with the amount of those working in professional services, today it is five times more than what it was ten years ago. Confirmation that an excellent education leads to better careers for Gozo people.”

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, Education Minister Clifton Grima, by Principal Sean Zammit, and the Head of School Franklyn Zammit Galea.
