As from today, contractors who did not apply to obtain a licence in demolition, excavation and construction, cannot continue to operate.

The Building and Construction Authority, said in a statement that the deadline for applications closed yesterday.

During the past months the Authority said that it received more than 3,500 applications for a licence. These contractors can continue to operate in the construction industry.

In this transitional period until the licenses are issued, only those who have applied for the Licence may continue to operate. Those contractors who did not apply by the 31st of October, can still do so until the 31st of May 2024.

The BCA explained that the Committee that is evaluating the applications may take up to 60 days to respond to such applications, this if all documents have been submitted.

In the meantime, the Authority said that in the coming weeks it will send an email informing all those who have applied for the provisional licence to submit any further work documents requested, in order to finally obtain the licence by the 1st of January 2025.
