The Nationalist Party has questioned “why and how the Local Government Division can issue a scheme for Local Councils from which the Gozitan Local Councils have been excluded.”
It argued that “Gozo is not second class.”
The PN was referring to a statement from the Gozo Regional Council today, which had described it as “discrimination” that Gozitan Local Councils are being excluded from applying for the latest scheme for restoration of historical sites and monuments.
“We now have three Gozitan Ministers and so far not one of them has uttered a word about this blatant discrimination,” the PN said.
The Nationalist Party reiterated that the Government and the Gozitan Labour Members of Parliament should join together with the Nationalist Party and demand an explanation as to why Gozitan Local Councils were excluded from this scheme, while they also see that this decision is reviewed.
“The Government cannot announce with much fanfare that it has good strategies on paper for Gozo, but then it offers a reality that is far from what is written on paper, indeed it is even the opposite of that written on paper,” the PN said.
The statement was signed by Shadow Minister for Gozo Alex Borg and Chris Said, Shadow Minister for Quality of Life and Local Government.
