Team Members of Hilton Malta participated in a joint activity with Nature Trust (Malta) in the Clean up the World event at the Pembroke Ranges area. This was part of the European Mobility Week event and the International Coastal Clean up day celebrated last week.
The event started with a short talk on the ecology found at Pembroke from Nature Trust (malta) . This was followed by the Hilton team cleaning up an extensive part of the area. A truck load of garbage was collected from the site which unfortunately includes the usual dump left by human nature.
NTM Executive President – Vincent Attard thanked Hilton Malta for their initiative and said that with Pembroke being so close to a tourism site it was commendable to see such people working in the tourism industry are giving their time and energy to help clean the environment. Mr Attard expressed his disappointment that although Pembroke was close to a Tourism area with most five 5-Star Hotels in the vicinity, only Hilton Malta participated in this world wide event. He urged other Hotels to follow the example and contribute to the environment protection. Pembroke today is visited by various tourists especially Germans who come to enjoy a Mediterranean Habitat rich in orchids and wild flowers and also fauna such as the hedgehog, chameleon etc. Mr Attard thanked the Malta Tourism Authority and the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs for supporting the event and provided material used during the clean up.
The Pembroke Mayor present at the event said that the Local Council has been working hard to reduce such dumping in the area but the situation is not easy leading to the degradation of the garigue habitat on the site.
Hilton spokesperson said that the Hilton Malta had the environment at heart. Hilton Malta feels that CSR is a duty to every organisation. Hilton Malta create awareness with its team members and participate in environmental activities, as an investment for a better healthier and safer future.
