Gozo registers huge 51% fall in building permits for new dwellingsFor the fourth quarter in succession Gozo registered a sharp fall in the number of approved building permits, with a 51% decrease noted for new dwellings at the end of last year.

199 dwellings were registered in the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 when the number was 406, the National Statistics Office said today.

Once again, Nadur had the highest number of approved new dwellings on Gozo, with 59.

Other Gozo localities were Ghajnsielem 25, Xewkija 22, Qala 19, Gharb 18, Victoria 15, Ghasri 12, Sannat 11, Fontana 6, Zebbug 5, Kercem 5, Munxar and Xaghra both with 1. There was nothing for San Lawrenz.

On a national basis, during the last quarter of 2023, 321 building permits for a total of 1,292 new dwellings were approved.

When compared to the same quarter in 2022, the number of approved new dwellings decreased by 37.4%.

Apartments made up 66.5% of the total number of approved new dwellings.

The highest number of approved new dwellings (73) was registered in San Gwann.
