The regeneration project of the Parish Hall adjacent to St George’s Basilica in Victoria, Gozo, has been inaugurated by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri.
The Minister stated that this infrastructural project will continue to strengthen the principles and values within the community that welcomes this site.
He added that this project will also create more opportunities for religious tourism, which is a strong tourist niche in the Maltese Islands and certainly has the potential to continue to grow.
Camilleri explained that the regeneration of this hall was done with an investment of around €100,000, where through the scheme Restoring and Upgrading Venues with the Capacity to Host MICE Events in Gozo, the project benefited from almost €50,000, as the scheme finances 50% of the costs up to a maximum of €50,000.
Works included the installation of a lift to make the hall more inclusive and accessible, an air conditioning system and new apertures were also installed, an audio-visual equipment was purchased, various finishing works were carried out in the hall and the modernisation of the sanitary facilities.
Minister Camilleri thanked everyone who contributed to this project, especially the Archpriest of the Parish, Monsignor Joseph Curmi and his collaborators, and the team within the Directorate for Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning.
The Minister also advised that in the coming weeks the MICE scheme will be reopened.
The Director for Tourism and Economic Development Ronald Sultana said that from the applications they received for the MICE Scheme, the Directorate welcomed eight different projects of different financial value.
He added that to date, the Directorate has financed the sum of almost €210,000 on these projects, with six of them being concluded. ?
