Later this month Il-Hagar Museum in Victoria, Gozo, will be celebrating two events which are being held in conjunction with the Malta Biennale Art 2024.

The date to keep free, is Saturday, the 23rd of March, and the first event starts at 11am, when the Museum welcomes artist Austin Camilleri together with photographer Alessandro Bergamini, Valerio Ballotta (GBK Malta / Culture18fineart) and Bruno Cavani (Ikos) who will launch The Ice Way photobook.

Bergamini’s book is a visual narration of the expedition undertaken by the group in the region of Ladakh (in the Indian Himalaya) in order to reach the village of Karsha and its Buddhist monastery. Italian native Alessandro Bergamini is a world-renowned international photographer who has travelled extensively to capture moments of humanity hidden within unfamiliar cultures.

His artistic career boasts numerous international prizes, including second place in the National Geographic Italia 2015 contest, the Monochrome Photography Awards 2020, first place in the International Photo Awards (IPA) in New York 2021 with his photobook Humanity, and winner of the prestigious Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) 2021.

He has also held a Tedx Talk: “Photographing diversity: A journey into the beauty of humanity.” In 2022 his personal exhibition was hosted at the Riaperture di Ferrara festival and at the Treviso PhotoFestival. In 2023, he was awarded third place at the World Water Day Photo Contest and was also selected to exhibit his works at the XPOSURE Dubai photo festival.

Then at 5pm on the same day, there will be a celebration of fine art, culture, and good cuisine, this time at Osteria Scottadito, the newly-opened restaurant in Nadur.

In tribute to Pesaro, their city of birth and Italian Capital of Culture in 2024, restaurant founders Michela and Emanuele (Mamo) Carloni, together with their friends Virna and Valerio Ballotta, who are celebrating a decade of activity in Malta with their company GBK Malta Ltd, have honoured two disciplines by exhibiting the photographic works of Alessandro Bergamini within the restaurant while simultaneously inaugurating the restaurant and its new location.

The photographs are part of the project Humanity, the photobook that won the International Photo Awards (IPA) 2021 in New York, and of two other special projects: Q’eros: Beyond the Clouds, Andes Peru Expedition 2022, and The Ice Way, Zanskar River Himalaya Expedition 2023.
