The National Blood Transfusion Service expressed its thanks to everyone who donated blood in Gozo on Sunday, however it said that the urgency is still in force for O Positive and O Negative blood, ” the reserve is not yet satisfactory.”

The need for blood is constant and the National Blood Transfusion service said that with each donation you can help save up to 3 lives.

The Service is, as always urging Gozitans to show their solidarity and please support sick patients in the hospitals of Gozo and Malta by making a donation on one of the five dates that are shown below during April, the first one being Tuesday, the 2nd of April.

Did you know that every 5 minutes someone in hospital needs blood: Children undergoing cancer treatments; Patients having surgery; Mothers facing childbirth complications; People with blood disorders, like Thalassaemia; Individuals with traumatic injuries.

Donations can be made at the District Health Centre in Xewkija, located in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club:

Sundays – last registration 1:00pm

7th April from 8:00am-1:00pm

21st April from 8:00am-1:00pm

Tuesdays – last registration 5:00pm

2nd April 1:00pm to 5:00pm

16th April 1:00pm to 5:00pm

30th April 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

Important notes from the National Blood Transfusion Service

• Bring your Maltese ID Card, driving licence or passport.

• Drink some water before your donation .

• Wear loose fitting clothes/sleeves.

• The face mask is still mandatory.
