Malta Arch and Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar, as part of their efforts in advocating for the preservation of Gozo’s stunning natural heritage, are inviting the public to join them on a guided nature walk along the scenic Marsalforn Road and into Wied tal-Grazzja.

Ethnobotanist Timothy J. Tabone will guide those taking part along the majestic valley-bed habitat, sharing his expertise and insights into the area’s important and threatened biodiversity.

There will be the opportunity to learn about the majestic trees such as the Ash and White Poplar and their crucial roles in Gozo’s ecosystem. With luck, walkers may also catch a glimpse of rare species such as the Moorhen water-bird or endemic Maltese Swallowtail butterflies and wall lizards.

However, the organisers stressed that “this walk serves a deeper purpose–these stunning trees, this wildlife, these large swathes of highly fertile arable land are all being threatened with obliteration. As we speak, an unnecessary road-widening project is on the table.”

Therefore, they explained that “after the walk we will get together in Marsalforn to discuss future collective actions that can be taken to assist in preserving Gozo’s irreplaceable natural beauty.”

This guided walk is taking place next Sunday, the 21st of April, starting at 4pm from The Capuchin Friary, Victoria.

The organisers are asking those taking part to please remember to take ample water in reusable bottles to stay hydrated.(This is very important!)

Wear sunscreen and a sun hat to protect yourself.

Wear comfortable and sturdy walking shoes.
