Gozo snooker season opens this weekThe snooker season in Gozo kicks off this Monday, November the 2nd, 2009 with the Gozo Snooker Cup 2009-2010 organised by the Gozo Billiards & Snooker Club, housed within the Leone Philharmonic Society (Victoria). The cup lasts until January 2010, while the snooker season will run on uninterruptedly until June.

No less than 70 players are expected to participate in this Gozo Snooker Cup 2009-2010. They are organised in 4 divisions. All games are played on two professional snooker tables, dating 1908, housed in the artistic halls of the Leone Band Club, in lower Republic Street, Victoria. Mario Apap, club director, is once again coordinating the events.

Once the lots have been drawn, the fixtures have been published and the rules have been communicated, amateur and friendly games will make way to the competitive frames that run on a daily basis during the coming months.

The general public is always invited to attend. Fixtures can be found on www.gozosnooker.com and www.leone.org.mt. Snooker in Gozo is still very much dependant on the hard work and energy invested by the voluntary organisations.

The Leone Philharmonic Society of Victoria organises the most frequented and participated leagues in Gozo, attracting members and players from all over the island. Due to this organisation, snooker still generates a particular interest on the Gozitan island, while producing notable successes on national and international levels.
