A 29-year old Ukrainian man lost his life on Tuesday afternoon after finding himself in difficulty whilst swimming in Gozo

Police said that the incident at around 1.30pm in Dwejra bay in the limits of San Lawrenz.

The Police went immediately to the scene where some people indicated where the swimmer was last seen at sea.

Members of the Civil Protection and the Armed Forces of Malta was immediately requested to the scene for help in the the search.

Police said that following a search lasting around three hours the body was spotted at sea and it was taken ashore in Mgarr Harbour, where it was confirmed that he was the same man.

Magistrate Dr Simone Grech has appointed a Magisterial Inquiry.

Police are investigating the case.
