Work on the Marsalforn Breakwater project continued over the last few months as the Environmental Impact Assessment study was completed, as requested from the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA).

This was announced by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, who also explained that in the coming weeks the ERA will be opening a consultation process for a period of one month, where anyone who is interested, apart from seeing and analysing the prepared document, can also give their input.

The Minister said the design chosen in relation to this project, which had been evaluated and welcomed by the Local Council of Zebbug, is intended to meet two important criteria: the defence of the beach from the storm and that it has the least possible visual impact.The Minister stressed that the Government “has no intention of turning Marsalforn into a Yacht Marina or any related maritime activity and on this there is also an agreement with the Zebbug Local Council, which is responsible for the beach of Marsalforn.”

“This is an holistic project, part of the Masterplan prepared for Marsalforn, a project that will see the beach extend once the breakwater is completed, where the agreed design will ensure that the circulation in the beach remains natural so that this popular beach will be able to be enjoyed by everyone who frequents it,” said the Minister.

The Director of Eko-Gozo, Joseph Cutajar, who is leading this project gave a presentation, and a technical presentation was also given by the Architect in charge Frank Muscat.
