Update from Nadur Local Council below: In a statement on Friday, Nadur Local Council Deputy Mayor Kevin Curmi, has highlighted that previously the annual seasonal flu booster “was offered to our elderly and vulnerable people at various local council offices, something which used to make life easier for them.”

According to Kevin Curmi, “the Health Ministry have doubled down and said that in Gozo it will only be offered at the central Victoria health centre.”

This will be “an absolute nightmare for elderly and vulnerable people to physically get there as Victoria is always very hectic and busy, not to mention without parking,” the Nadur Deputy Mayor said.

“I am very frustrated that even though as a collective Council we have tried to talk to the health authorities in order to accommodate our residents and the elderly we have been told they will have to go to Victoria,” said Kevin Curmi.

The Health Ministry announced the annual vaccination campaign on Wednesday, with the addition of the PCV vaccine for those aged over 65.

Update Nadur Local Council Saturday, 19th October, 2.30pm:

The Local Council of Nadur said that it has spoken to the Health Ministry asking that this service be provided by the locality as in previous years. “We have insisted on this and as a Council we are offering all possible assistance to make this happen.”

However, “until now we still have no direction on how and when, or even if, it seems that this will be allowed,” the Council said.

The Nadur Council concluded by saying, “we will keep you updated, while as a Council we remain determined that these services are provided from the locality.”
