First phase of regeneration and building of new Gozo hospital launchedThe first phase of the development and regeneration project of the Gozo General Hospital has been launched by Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela.

The Minister explained that the first phase of this project will be starting in the coming days and should be completed in the first quarter of the 2025.

He went on to explain that in preparation for this, a number of elderly people who are in the ‘Male Geriatric Ward’ who need long-term care will be relocated to Dar San Guzepp in Ghajnsielem.

“As the relocation takes place, as part of this project the last phase of geological tests of the land will begin where the development of a new acute hospital will be carried out which will cover around 400 beds,” the Minister said.

He added that in the coming days a call of interest will be issued to rent a building in which the administration of the same hospital will be able to operate until this project is completed, enabling the start of the necessary demolition and excavation of the hospital.

“This was one of our priorities and in the last months intensive and non-stop work was done to enable this project to be launched,” concluded Minister Abela.
