Enemalta announced this morning that at 6:15 am one of the main switchgear suffered as yet an unidentified fault that resulted in an explosion that caused both Power Stations to trip down.

Enemalta said that the fire was immediately controlled by the automatic fire extinguishing system. Enemalta started working immediately to restore power to the entire grid, in areas of Malta power started being restored from 7.30am, most parts of Gozo and Comino had their power restored at around 9.30am.

Enemalta are holding an enquiry.
