“We welcome the resignation of Minister Clayton Bartolo who, after scandals and doubts about how he managed his Ministry He should have resigned long ago. The delay in resigning has damaged the country,” said ADPD Chairperson Sandra Gauci.
“Now we await the resignation of the other Minister, Clint Camilleri, who was instrumental in Clayton Bartolo being able to carry out the abuse. We also expect Amanda Muscat to return the money she pocketed for work she never did,” Gauci said.
This was supported by in a statement, in which Gauci said that accountability and transparency in behavior is essential for anyone who holds public office.
“Ministers should be among the first to be exemplary in the way they lead and if not, they will be dismissed or dismissed. The way in which public funds are used must always be transparent because after all, they are the people’s taxes. These should be used carefully and we will know where and how every cent was spent. This is true accountability,” she said.
Gauci continued by insisting that, “the Prime Minister should have forced these Ministers to step down long ago. Instead, he waited to see if public opinion would be vocal enough. This implies weak leadership lacking a sense of ethics, and also implies the crucial role of independent media, and civil society and pluralism in politics, to serve as a shield for the public who are being robbed of their money practically every day.”
