San Lawrenz Local Council said in a statement that it has “once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the local farming community by completing another farm road.”

This initiative is part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility for farmers, ensuring they can carry out their work more efficiently and sustainably.

This project was made possible through EU funding under Measure 4.3, which supports investments in agricultural infrastructure, including the development and maintenance of farm roads.

By securing these funds, the local council said it has been able to “ease the daily challenges faced by farmers in transporting goods, accessing their fields, and maintaining their livelihoods.”

Mayor of San Lawrenz, Noel Formosa, emphasised the importance of such initiatives, stating, “helping our local farmers is not just about improving their working conditions; it is also a way of safeguarding our cultural heritage and protecting the locality from over-exploitation. Agriculture is an integral part of our identity, and by supporting it, we are preserving the traditional way of life in San Lawrenz.”

Local farmers have expressed their appreciation for the completion of the new road, highlighting the positive impact it has on their daily operations.

One farmer, shared his gratitude by commenting that “for years, we have struggled with difficult access to our fields, especially during harsh weather. Thanks to the efforts of the San Lawrenz Local Council and EU funding, we now have a well-maintained road that makes our work much easier. It’s reassuring to see that both the EU and our local leaders truly care about our needs.”

Another farmer added, “farming is not just a job; it’s a way of life. Knowing that the local council is actively working to support us gives us the motivation to continue. This new road is a testament to their commitment.”

San Lawrenz Local Council said it “remains dedicated to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring that farmers have the necessary infrastructure to thrive. By continuously investing in such projects, the council is reinforcing its pledge to maintain the rural character of the locality while fostering sustainable development.”

It stressed that “this latest achievement marks another milestone in the Council’s long-term vision of creating a farmer-friendly environment, ensuring that agriculture remains a vibrant and essential part of San Lawrenz for generations to come.”
