Momentum Chairperson Arnold Cassola has announced the party’s highly anticipated economic policy platform, outlining 17 policies for a “prosperous and a more equitable future,” including raising the minimum wage to €360 per week.
Key highlights of the Momentum Party’s economic platform, as outlined by Chairperson Cassola, include:
Ensuring a Decent Living Wage: The Momentum Party proposes raising the minimum wage to €360 per week to reduce poverty, improve quality of life, and promote a more just and equitable society.
Rewarding Integrity with Tax Compliance: Implement measures to reward businesses and individuals with a proven record of tax compliance, fostering a culture of fiscal responsibility.
Taxing Second Vacant Properties: Implementing a tax on vacant residential properties (excluding the first) to discourage holding empty properties, lower market prices, and generate funds for social housing projects. In practice, all residential homes, all rented properties and the first vacant property remain untaxed.
He said that “these policies are the culmination of an innovative and collaborative process, beginning with a vision circle where community members shared their concerns and aspirations for the country’s economic landscape.”
