Maicon and Stefania Marchionna Gozo visit for Inter Club Gozo’s 10th anniversary

To mark Inter Club Gozo’s 10th anniversary various activities were held as part of the celebrations, including a visit by special guests, the former legendary player who won the treble with Inter FC in 2009-2010, Maicon Douglas Sisenando, as well as Stefania Marchionna – la madrina dell’Inter 2021.

The highlight of the celebrations was the Gala Dinner held at the Grand Hotel, Mgarr, Gozo, as well as a training session for Gozitan U/13 children at the Gozo Stadium, which was led by Maicon himself. With the full collaboration of the Gozo Youth FA.

Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, was present for U/13 training session and souvenirs for the occasion were later exchanged. Maicon was also given a warm welcome during his visits to the Inter Gozo and Inter Malta clubs.

Both Maicon and Marchionna visited the Ta’ Pinu National Sanctuary, where they were welcomed by the Rector Fr Gerard Buhagiar, as well as having the opportunity to go out on a boat trip and visit other places of interest in the Maltese islands, including Mdina and Valletta.

During the Gala Dinner, which was open to all who wished to attend, Joe Bajada, President of Inter Gozo gave a welcome address to those present. He said that they were very honoured to have Maicon and Stefania joining with them in the celebration for this tenth anniversary of the Inter Club in Gozo, as well as the Club’s place in the Champions League final against Paris St Germain.

Bajada spoke about the official opening of the Inter Supporters Club in Gozo which took place on the 13th of September 2015, just before the Serie A Milano derby, won 1-0 by Inter against Milan. However, for this to happen, Bajada said that he had already started contacts years before, until finally all the necessary requirements were met and they were accepted as full members within the Centro Cordinamento.

He added that the lack of an alternative place where Gozitan Inter fans could follow their junior matches together in Gozo itself had long been felt. And this was precisely one of the main and specific purposes of the establishment of this new Gozitan Club.

Bajada gave thanks to the Kercem Festival Arrangements Committee, who offered a place in their Centre to enable the meetings to start.

He thanked the sponsors and his colleagues on the Committee for their work, as well as everyone who helped make Maicon Douglas Sisenando and Stefania Marchionna’s visit, a first for the Maltese Islands, such a success.

Joe Bajada concluded his message by expressing gratitude to everyone that attended the celebration evening, including Maicon and Marchionna who, Bajada said, “spoke of their surprise at the high level of organisation.”
