The Malta Ranger Unit has advised that “due to safety reasons” any reports to be made by the public will, from now on have to initially be made via SMS/WhatsApp message on 7937 8118. The Rangers will then follow this report up with a call.

The MRU said that in addition, its Rangers will not answer calls from private numbers.

In regards to confidentiality, the MRU said that they “take such very seriously and can guarantee it to everyone who gets in touch with us.”

The MRU did not go into disclose the reasons behind the change in reporting issues, however they have in the past experienced threatening and intimidating behaviour when out on patrol or investigating reports.
