Dr Vanessa Saliba, senior lecturer at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (Gozo Campus), has published a peer-reviewed article in the Malta Review of Educational Research – an international, fully refereed journal dedicated to critical and empirical analyses of educational issues.
In a recent article titled ‘Training Needed for Educators to Work with Autistic Students in Mainstream Primary Schools: The Maltese Perspective,’ Saliba highlights the crucial role educators play in fostering the inclusion of autistic students in mainstream classrooms.
The study reveals a significant gap in training among Maltese educators, which poses serious challenges in providing effective support for autistic students, said Saliba.
Drawing on findings from this research, Saliba outlines practical training suggestions offered by the participants themselves. She noted that “considering their suggestions could lead to ensuring Maltese autistic students receive the quality education they deserve.”
The research paper is available to view by clicking here. While the full issue of the journal can be accessed here.
This publication builds on Dr Saliba’s earlier research exploring educators’ perceived needs regarding resources and services for supporting autistic students in mainstream primary schools. That paper is available here.
Dr Saliba said that both research studies were fully funded by the ENDEAVOUR Scholarships Scheme.
