Gozo is to host its first Masters Water Polo Tournament from 28-30 November, welcoming veteran and seasoned players from around the world to compete in a three-day sporting event.
The tournament is organised by Barracudas Sports Club, Balluta Young Boys (BYB), Comino Masters, and Otters ASC, with the support of VisitMalta, the official tourism website for the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA).
The organisers said that it will take place at the Gozo Aquatic Centre, in Victoria, “the island’s newly built indoor sports facility, featuring an Olympic-size pool and modern amenities.”
The competition is open to male players aged 40 and above, in two age categories: 40+ and 50+. Each team will consist of up to 15 players and participate in a minimum of six matches. The participation fee is €125 per player.
The organisers advised that matches will follow the updated FINA water polo rules, with each game consisting of a 5-minute warm-up followed by a 25-minute session.
The schedule includes:
Day 1 (28 Nov): 16:00 – 20:00
Day 2 (29 Nov): 09:00 – 19:00
Day 3 (30 Nov): 09:00 – 12:00
A welcome event will be held on the evening of the 29th of November, featuring complimentary finger food and an open bar for participants.
The organisers went on to say that travel arrangements include optional transfers from Malta International Airport (MLA) to Gozo, including a 20-minute ferry trip from Malta to Gozo, daily hotel-to-pool transportation, and access to recommended 3-star hotel options. Further accommodation details will be shared at a later stage.
Excursions around Gozo can also be arranged for attendees and accompanying guests at an extra cost.
