Nine ENGOs have expressed their support for the Opposition’s bill to implement measures for the protection of the environment in Malta’s Constitution.

This motion will make the right to live in a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment a constitutional right for every person living in Malta.

The ENGOs added that land, water, air, ecosystems and the aesthetic coherence of our environment will be protected.

Using this right, every person will have the right to challenge laws and policies which have the intention of destroying Malta and Gozo for the continued benefit of the few.

The ENGOs said that they believe that this right “will help put a stop to the continued and malicious undermining of environmental protection which has been the trend of the last few decades.”

The ENGOs encouraged members on the side of the Government to support this Bill, which will ultimately benefit the vast majority of their constituents.

The ENGOs concluded by saying that they strongly believe that this bill is an “historic opportunity which should not be squandered and which could be a transformative moment towards a better future for our country.”
