The Office of the President has today announced the appointment of two Judges – Gozitan Simone Grech and Rachel Montebello.
The Office also said that lawyers Franco Agius and Ingrid Bianco are to be appointed as Magistrates.
Writing on X, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that, “the appointment of two new Judges and two new Magistrates strengthens Malta’s justice system and marks a milestone for equality.”
He added that, “three women among the four appointees, including Dr Simone Grech, the first Gozitan woman judge.”
Simone Grech graduated Doctor of Law (LL.D.) from the University of Malta in November 2004. She obtained the warrant to practice at the Bar in March 2005.
Grech continued her studies at the University of Malta and obtained the degree of Magister Juris in European and Comparative Law in November 2005. She served for some years as deputy defender of the bond within the Ecclesiastical Metropolitan Tribunal.
Dr Grech served as a Magistrate in the Gozo Courts.
