Camp Gustizzja ghal Artna have set up dozens of tents outside Parliament, establishing Camp Gustizzja ghal Artna, “demanding that the Government immediately withdraw the planning laws that would hand all power to developers and wreak destruction across our country.”

The group said that they are carrying out a direct action to send a clear message – “we will not accept Government ignoring the people’s plea for planning and environmental justice.”

Camp Gustizzja ghal Artna called on the public to join the camp by filling in this form. We will stay here for as long as necessary to ensure our message is heard loud and clear.

“Everyone is welcome to join – even if only for a couple of hours, and even if they don’t have a tent. The public is also invited to stop by and speak with us, so we can explain in detail the threat posed to our communities by this developers’ wishlist disguised as planning reform,” the group said.

Tomorrow, Monday 27th October, the protest Gustizzja ghal Artna: Together, We’ll Stop Them! will take place, starting at 5:30pm from the Law Courts and proceed towards Parliament.

Gustizzja ghal Artna argued that “this so-called planning reform is the sword of Damocles hanging over people’s heads. We will not act as if it is business as usual while the Government launches a total assault on our quality of life and basic decency.”

The group stated that “the two planning bills would dismantle existing protections against unbridled construction by rendering planning regulations ineffective and placing full control in the hands of the corrupt Planning Authority.”

Gustizzja ghal Artna added that “they would also severely undermine the public’s right to effectively appeal illegal decisions and strip the Courts of their power to revoke illegal permits. In addition, the three legal notices would grant a blanket amnesty for all sorts of illegalities committed up to last year, with no limits on type, size, or location.”

“Too much is at stake: our most cherished places, our communities, social justice, and democracy. The fight to save our country from this developers’ coup will continue,” concluded Gustizzja ghal Artna.
