As in previous years, many Maltese and tourists crossed over for the weekend between Malta and Gozo, for the annual Gozo Carnival.

Although in some instances the celebrations of the carnival were cancelled due to the wind and rain, many activities went ahead as planned. Some of those took place in the streets and squares of Victoria. Many people also visited the spontaneous carnival at Nadur.

La Notte in Maschera, in Victoria, which is in its first year, was organised by the Cultural Council within the Ministry for Gozo and was enjoyed by locals and Maltese alike. The evening created an atmosphere that was complemented by the environment which is typical of the quiet areas and alleys in the centre of Victoria.

The Regional Carnival of Gozo will end today, Tuesday, the 16th of February, with a Grand Carnival Defile, starting at 6.30 pm from Kennedy Square, up Republic Street to Savina Square. There will also be a spectacle of dance companies, bands, grotesque masks and traditional floats participating in the Carnival of Gozo 2010. The spontaneous carnival at Nadur also closes on Tuesday evening.
